Long before a capital city stood on the cliffs, there was only Barrack Hill—a rugged, lawless wilderness of old-growth timber and ancient stone. In 1826, Colonel By and his Royal Sappers and Miners arrived to carve a lifeline through the bedrock of the Canadian Shield. They fought through brutal winters, dense black powder smoke, and unrelenting rock to build the historic Rideau waterway.

The Sapper’s Current is a wearable piece of that raw history.

Framed in an industrial-grade, precision-polished stainless steel core reminiscent of the engineers’ cold iron tools, the inlay tells the story of the land itself. The foundation of the ring is crafted from authentic, dark charcoal limestone—the very stone quarried by hand to form the locks. Veined through the dark rock is vibrant Bancroft Sodalite, representing the untamed northern waters cutting through the Shield.

To bring the piece to life, we have infused the stone borders with shimmering blue mica and a deep-set, light blue glow powder. By day, the mica catches the sunlight like ripples on open water. By night, the hidden current awakens, casting a brilliant subterranean glow that honors the grit, sweat, and vision of the men who built a nation’s lifeline.
